Hannah catches that time between childhood and young adulthood so perfectly and then she is able to link it to the experiences of the reader while making it look so natural and easy. When Wil discovers a way to summon all of the dead within a five mile radius, he is surprised to find his back-from-the-dead brother is now distant and emotionless. What Wil isn’t telling anyone is that if he was able to bring his deceased brother back as a zombie, he’d do it immediately. Wil Lowenstein, thirteen years old, copes with the death of his brother by focusing on Zombie Tag, a mafia/capture the flag hybrid game where he and his buddies battle brain-eating zombies with their mom’s spatulas. Thing about zombies, though, is that they don’t really make for the best of siblings. Will desperately wants his big brother to return from the dead. “Zombie Tag” is a stand alone novel and was released in the year 2011. She is a truly unique writer and this is a good and fast read, and her characters are three dimensional and very relatable and the central idea is insane yet well done. Hannah has a poet’s sensibilities in her terse and tight sentences, picking each and every word for its merit rather than the beauty of its sound when it rolls off of the tongue. Jonah’s self-destructive spiral increases and he finally hits rock bottom, is he going to find true strength or is he going to surrender to his breaking point? It is Jonah’s sole way to cope with all of the stresses of girls, home, and the world that is on his shoulders. Jonah wants to be stronger, needs it actually, since everything around him continues to fall apart. Everybody knows that broken bones will grow back stronger than before. Jonah is on a mission to break all the bones in his body.
